What the medical community refers to as acne lesions it is more generally known as blemishes.

    Blemishes
Blemishes may appear as comedones, whiteheads, papules, pustules or nodules.

    Comedo
A comedo is a clogged hair follicle, the small shaft where hair grows.

    Whiteheads / Blackheads
Whiteheads are similar to comedones but differ in that they cause colored swellings to occur. If they are pushed up to the skin's surface they become blackheads due to their dark aspects. Opposite to traditional misjudgment the dark coloration of the blemish is not dirt, is a skin pigment known as melanin which darkens when exposed to air.

    Papules
Papules occur when comedones swell and get red and tender.

    Pustules / Pimples
Pustules are what we call pimples. They are a more serious type of blemishes with pus containing white blood cells, dead skin and bacteria on top.

    Nodules
Nodules are hard acne lesions grown underneath the skin leading to scaring and painful sensations.

    Acne cysts
More severe than nodules are acne cysts which take form even deeper underneath the epidermis.

    i also heard of:

Acne Rosacea - that can look similar to the aforementioned acne vulgaris, and the two types of acne are sometimes confused for one another.

There alo are severe forms of acne. They are rare, but constitute a great hardship to the people who experience them, and can be disfiguring.

Acne Conglobata: This is the most severe form of acne vulgaris and is more common in males. It is characterized by numerous large lesions, which are sometimes interconnected, along with widespread blackheads.

Acne Fulminans: This is an abrupt onset of acne conglobata which normally afflicts young men. Symptoms of severe nodulocystic, often ulcerating acne are apparent.

Gram-Negative Folliculitis: This condition is a bacterial infection characterized by pustules and cysts, possibly occurring as a complication resulting from a long term antibiotic treatment of acne vulgaris.

Pyoderma Faciale: This type of severe facial acne affects only females, usually between the ages of 20 to 40 years old, and is characterized by painful large nodules, pustules and sores which may leave scarring. It begins abruptly, and may occur on the skin of a woman who has never had acne before.

I got acne from adolescence and I'm still fighting it now. I always get these open comedos, as my doctor calls them, especially on my forehead, nose wings and chin. I hate them, they're so unaesthetic! Acne is not a disease, it's a punishment!

The worst acne type are nodules. You can't get rid of nodules for weeks or even month. That's torture! Besides, nodules and cysts also leave permanent scars, so it's not enough that you get to deal with puss-filled comedos for weeks, but you also get deep marks after they're gone.

So, I guess, I should think of myself lucky, right? I've only dealt with whiteheads so far. At first I was afraid it might get more serious, but since highschool whiteheads appear just as frequently and seriously as back then. What I heard is really nasty, though, is acne conglobata. I heard it also involves some kind of infection. Lucky it only shows on chest, buttocks and on the back

There is one more type of acne we didn't mentioned here: baby acne. I have no details, so if you knows more about it just write a few lines.

There are the primary items that will occur during the scars of illness, and secondary - who remain at the primary site.
Primary cells are of two types - inflammatory and nevospalitelnye. This division is suspended, and "inflamed" characteristic is primarily concerned with the external "inflamed" - reddening of the skin and swelling.
The noninflammatory elements are mixed comedones and sometimes cyst.
    - white heads (close comedones)

    - black heads (open comedones)

    - cyst

Comedones or acne, are of two types : open and closed. Closed comedones look like white points, or nodules, were white "head". Open comedones look like black dots (often called them and sometimes also say "black heads"). Comedones increasingly placed on the forehead and chin.
The inflammatory elements (radicals) are papules and blisters, as well as nodules.

    - papules

    - pustule

    - nodules

Papules look like small dense knots to 5 mm in diameter, red poetic on the surface of skin. Many small papul can give hilly skin type.

Pustules (background) less dense skin, as they represent the cavity filled with suffering. Pus then went to the surface. The pustules formed in follicle, usually a hair. Pustules small size (up to 5 mm) and usually do not form scars.
Nodules - larger (more than 5 mm) deep and rigid structure. They are often painful. Dissolution nodules leads to the formation of cyst. On-site nodules scars remain.
Cyst with acne disease different from normal cyst - cavities under the skin. Typically, they are located against the backdrop of inflammation, appear red or purple. They also can be very painful and form scars behind. Frequently, a cyst alternating with the "slip" fistula moves and bridge scars.
Secondary elements in acne rash is a crust of get pustules and cysts, sometimes flakes. These include excoriation and is the result of squeezing, attempts to remove blotches. On the ground, aging may be different spots, pink or red on the spot recently discovered pustules light or dark (pigmented) for the old.
Simple, small pink or red spots remaining at the old elements rashes usually disappear after a few weeks.
The different elements rashes said on its severity, which can be assessed.
