    Roche withdrawals Acne drug Accutane
The Swiss drug manufacturer Roche Holding AG announced the withdrawal of its best selling Acne drug Accutane. The big Giant, claims that the product reached it's life cycle and generic versions, such as those manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Mylan and India's Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd , dominate the market.

"This was an economical decision driven by falling market share" "As always when you have generics around, your market share drops" Roche spokeswoman Martina Rupp said. Market Share for Accutane , known generically as Isotretinoin, was around 4 to 5 percent. Today Teva holds more than 54% of market share followed by Milan and India's Rambaxy with 23% each.

Despite the enormus success Accutane had treating severe Acne, it is also known for the suspected side effects linked to it's use. Some of these are: severe birth defects if taken during pregnancy, depression, and suicidal thinking. For this, Roche faces high costs from personal injury lawsuits.
