Hello,
I am a almost 13 year old male and living in Mississauga, Canada. I just have a few questions about my skin care routine. I have combination skin.
My skin care routine consists of:
1st: I do Cleansing: I use either, Spectro Jel for Combination Skin,http://www.spectroskincare.com/combination_skin_jel.aspx
or Clearasil Stay Clear Daily Cleansing Pads,
http://www.clearasil.ca/en/pads/pads-pore.shtmlNote: Clearasil Stay Clear Daily Cleansing Pads have 2% Salicylic Acid for exfoliating.
2nd: I use Acne Cream: I use Clearasil Stay Clear Acne Treatment Cream BP Plus,
Umm.. I could not find a website for it.3rd: I do Moisturize
Clean & Clear Oil Free Dual Action Moisturizer,
http://www.cleanandclear.com/productDetail.do?productid=52&productpos=0I do this routine every morning (uggg... 7:30 AM) and every night.
My questions are:
1. What other products should I be using.
2. Should there be any more changes to my skin care routine.
3. Do u think my puberty has anything to do with this?
4. Is there any make-at-home thing, or product, I can do to make my acne scars go away.
5. Should I use toner?
6. How much Salicylic Acid should my 1 of my products have to exfoliate my face?
7. How much Benzoyl Peroxide should I my products have for acne skin?
8. Am I using too much products in my skin care routine? If you have anymore things to add please say it.
Remember, I am 12 years old, I do not have lots of money to spend of products. Please and Thank You,

9. Should I be using both cleansers? I mean is, 1st I use the Spectro Jel for Combination Skin, and then I use Clearasil Stay Clear Daily Cleansing Pads?

Hi yeegreen1,
I have your answers, and yes, you can get rid of the Acne by simply knowing what foods cause the pimples. Did you know that there are many countries in the world that are not bothered with Ance. It's the western diet that causes Acne. America is one of the western countries. We have so many refined foods and we have an abundance of it. In some countries they only eat what they themselves grow, hunt, or catch. Many countries do not drink milk. Milk is the worst food for causing Acne. I will get you through this. I am 58 years old now. When I was your age, 12 my acne started on my chin. The more I scrubbed the more red and raw it got.No matter what people or doctors tell you, I know that you can't and will never cure Acne from the outside. Acne can only be cured from the inside. Fruits and vegetables eaten everyday will make your Acne better, but everything in moderation. Stress of school work make Acne worse, but bothers kids less that eat good.
Green leafy vegetables have more useable calcium than milk. Milk is full of growth hormones and grease that comes out on the skin and causes Acne. Get used to eating Collard Greens, Turnip Greens, Spinach, and Mustard Greens. Get your mom to by these foods for you and corn on the cob in the husks, not in the can. It's fresher and tastes better on the cob. One ounce of Sesame Seeds have 28% of your daily calcium requirement. I pour some in a cup then pour a little at a time in my mouth and chew it up.
Once you get used to more veggies everyday you will lose your desire for milk. Countries where they eat more vegetables don't have near the tooth dacay and weak bones that Americans have. The average beggar on the street in some of these under developed countries have better teeth than the average teen living in Boston or New York have.
Here are a couple of facts about milk. A baby calf will not live more than six months by drinking it's own mothers milk if the milk is first pasturized because the heat in pasturizing kills the enzymes in the milk making it nearly impossible to digest even for a calf.
I drank milk while growing up and I have very bad teeth. Cats living on just pasturized cow's milk will become extinct in 3 generation (10 years.) The third generation of cats were still born or sterile. Cats living on just raw milk do just fine, but you can catch diseases from raw milk. So reduce or eliminate milk from your diet, that is if you drink it. Teens that drink only one cup or less of milk per day have less Acne than those that have 2 or 3 cups a day. Teenagers that drink 8 cups a day often are covered with Acne all over the face, back, neck, chest, and shoulders. Terrible
Chocolate, cut it out or only eat a small amount once in a while. It is 55% cocoa butter, very oily. Potato chips, full of oil. You don't need this stuff. Sausage and bacon. Get rid of it, you don't need it. Eggs and ham are much better foods. The milk products like ice cream and cheese are greasy like the milk. If your stomach really misses the milk products then have a little. You should obey your stomach til it says otherwise.
Acne is usually cause by the greasy foods you are eating a lot of. Everything in moderation is the key. I'm not asking you to get skinny, no way. Just eat better.
Don't eat the greasy french fries, eat a baked potato with maybe a small amount of butter. Bread can cause Acne from the shortening oil, and sugar. The refined flour in bread raises blood sugar faster causing production of insulin. This raises hormones which makes the skin oily.
Exercise reduces hormones and makes the skin less oily. Stress makes the skin oily, so start making yourself have fun, allow time for it. If there is a girl you like don't be shy, talk to her. She wants you to. Over come that shyness. Shyness makes the skin oily so start living.
What I'm asking you to do is change your life style.
Lack of enough sleep definitey causes Acne. Reduce the sugar and caffeine. If you can not have caffeinated type drinks that is good or just have a little early in the day so it wears off before bed time so you can sleep. Vitamins can cause insomnia and so can the whole grains (endurance). If you eat what I have listed here you won't need vitamins. Vitamins are another refined food in the worst way. They are hard on the intestines and stomach.
Please write me if you want and lets talk about this. I want to hear what your diet is like. I've been writing a book about curing Acne. I've cured several people including my two sons with just a short conversation. It's in the diet, moderation. Sugar raises blood sugar which makes the skin oily so eliminate the cokes. Even fruit juices raise blood sugar a lot which makes the skin more oily. It's better to just eat an apple or eat an orange, some grapes.
Remember, refined food and vitamin companies don't know you and don't care about you. Please hear what I'm saying. This letter has been total truth.
Get used to real taste instead of sweet taste and you'll be fine, but you will have to change. Mexican food has real taste. Email me if you want, lehuggard@cox.net. Stan

Hello Stan,
I dont think I am that ready for changing my whole lifestyle... remember i'm only 12 years old, I have school to worrie about. I think what I am saying is, I think using products is my best bet for clearing up my acne, i'm not expecting it cure my acne. I am willing to change some of the stuff i'm eating, like eating more vitamins (I prefere my vitamins in a pill form), and veggies/fruit.
Please and Thank You,

Sounds like you don't drink milk. Neither of my sons drink milk, but my first son was into eating a lot of butter on his bread. It was the one thing that was starting to give him some serious pimples. They left when I told him he was really over doing it. He could pack more butter on a slice of bread than anyone I know.
He started drinking real orange juice instead of sunny delight. In a month his pimple were gone never to return. He also started the talking to girls thing. If a young man is uptight about that sometimes it is the thing it takes to unexcite the skin.
About the orange juice, some people have more problems with Acne when they drink orange juice. My second son is one of those.
Things like chocolate bars, ice cream, and potato chips bother his complexion. The fruit juice is like consuming a lot of that fruit but you don't get the pulp and you get too much sugar. Make the hormone level rise and the skin gets oilier. See, it's the refined foods again. They are everywhere.I asked this high schooler I knew, Allen if he eats candy, because he never had even one zit on his face. He showed me what he did eat. He had about 3 or 4 apples in his back pack. Allen is a Filipina and that's how he ate. Not a bad idea.
About the vitamins. It's usually the too much of something that makes for the breakouts not the lack of. In New Guinea and Paraguay out of 1305 people studied over 2 years time not even a small pimple was found on anyone. Those people are very poor. I'm not sure if they even have refrigerators to keep extra food, but I'm not saying to diet. I'm just saying that usually it's the junk food and the excesses that is responsible for the Acne. If you take vitamins, why not try not taking them for a week or two. You might just get hungry for more veggies. Toast salads are very good for the skin and digestion. Have your parents take you to a salad bar and lose yourself there. Really get into the different types of salad. Just be careful not to use too much oily salad dressing.
Several times in my life growing up I would get sick with a fever. It was from eating too much. We didn't know moderation in my house. I wouldn't eat anything for 4 days. After the 4th day the fever would always break, and my pimples would be cleared up as well. This didn't teach me to not eat, no way. It just started to teach me that the over eating at breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the desserts like ice cream (3 bowls and day) and home made chocolate fudge, eggnogs, several cups of milk daily was the problem.
Do you like fish? Fish is something the people in these other places where pimples almost don't exist eat regularly. Chicken is good too. I wouldn't eat red meat everyday. Try different types of beans part of the time. Eat vegetable soup made with a little meat for flavor. Minestrone is good. Chile beans with cornbread is awesome and it's real taste. Lima beans can taste good. Have your mother try different recipes.
When I joined the military I was away for 5 1/2 months. They wouldn't let me take my antibiotics. I thought I would have a real problem, but to my surprise my skin lost it's excessive oil in about 10 days. It was the small desserts, no seconds, and all the constant marching here and there with pushups and jumping jacks, crawling on our bellies. We kept busy and that was good. This kept the pores cleaned out and the activity without the stress of public school life was a stress buster. Most kids are over fed here in America and under worked. This keeps the hormones too high for good skin health.
When I moved away from home shortly after my stay in the Airforce I also noticed the same thing, my skin became normal again. No excessive oil. Me and a friend got an apartment together. We didn't even think about making goodies like cake and ice cream. We just had the necessities and did fine.
Rice is a good food. Is slower to raise the blood sugar than bread.
Are you oriental? Those asians have much better clearer skin than the average American because of their diets. They eat the rice with vegetables and less meat. We in America can't actually eat just like other people of other lands. We aren't them. We would probably develope deficiencies trying to eat like them, but we can use some of their ideas. I've always liked rice, but I can't eat it instead of bread. I would be starving for bread on the second day.Moderation is a hard thing to learn. Just don't eat too much of any one thing. My weakness was diary products.
Here's something to think about. Remember the bitter things relax us. Foods like toast salads, celery, etc. Sweet things make us go. With a good diet we will always get a good nights sleep, but it actually sounds like you probably get enough sleep. At 12 you should wake up feeling good everyday. If you feel tired in the morning, then just go to bed earier. Take a look at your schedule. Maybe start homework earlier. Back to diet, with a good diet you shouldn't need vitamins. You can get out of balance with vitamins. I used to take them. My parents were trying to do their best for me, but the vitamins made me very hyper and I didn't know why back then. Now I know why. I needed to eat less of the things that made me go and more of the things that relaxed me. Vitamins make people have too much energy. All we need is a balanced diet. Fruits, vegetables, grains, protein rich foods, and dairy if you like it and are hungry for it.
My son Jeff is very well fed and he doesn't take vitamins nor does he drink milk. His teeth are beautiful. We found out that in human waste there is plenty of nutrients still left so it seems like there is enough nutrients in natural food. But if you feel better with vitamins then you should take them.
Most vitamins today are overkill. When I read on the labels and see how many times more of different vitamins and minerals that are in one tablet it is way over board. 3000% the RDA of vitamin C for instance. I knew a friend that took a high potency Vitamin C pill. The backs of his hands were red and pealing. I told him I thought it was the vitamin C, so he stopped taking it and his skin rash cleared up.
Bill Cosby said one time, you have to get in contact with your body. Give it what it needs. That is good advice.
Pimples are because of excited skin, so something in your diet is too much. Maybe earlier to bed could help. Please keep writing me and we can figure this thing out. Stan

Hello Stan,
Again, I love how much information you give me. I would like some more information on what vitamins I should be taking for better skin/ less acne. So what you are saying is, I shouldn't be having any dairy products, less candy/junk food. And also, getting the real stuff ex. Orange Juise is better than the concentrate stuff for your skin. Its good that I am eating lots of white rice.... I am guessing you think asian eh? Yes I am asian.
All I need are the answers for my questions in the topic starter. But keep on giving me more information on acne :).
Please and Thank You,
yeegreen1 :) -
Hey Yeegreen,
I should have known by the name that you were asian but I thought it was one of those made up user IDs. As far as what vitamins are best for the skin. B vitamins (B complex) are known to be good for skin. I personally took a B complex vitamin for two years. It relaxed me and for about two years it did me good, but at that time I didn't eat salads or other vegetables. After about two years the B vitamins stopped helping so I stopped taking them. There is a medical doctor named Lorraine Day. She was in 4th stage cancer and was at the point of not being able to consume water. Her days left on earth were just a few. I'm not going to go into all she did, but in 8 months the cancer was gone. She says to build her immune system back taking vitamins were not one of them. She talks about being in bed no later than 9:30 every night. Pat Boone once said, "tomorrow always comes, so get your sleep." That was an important lesson for him.
I didn't start eating vegetables til I was 30 years old. Veggies relax the body and mind. They have complex B vitamins. Arnold Schwartzenegger says vegetables put the mind in the proper mental balance and he is correct. I will tell you a story about how vegetables first effected me at 30. We had just moved into a new horse. We didn't have much furniture, lots of empty floor space. I have been eating a celery stick. Pretty soon I was sprawled out on the floor and asleep. My wife told me "I have never seen you so relaxed." This proved to me that the best vitamins are the ones in foods and vegetables with the B complex are known to give people great looking skin. Being a strict vegetarian is not a good idea unless possibly you come from a country recently where people eat more vegetables than Americans do. Yeegreen, you may have read this already, but asian people start getting the types of diseases that Americans get once they move here and start eating our ways with the more meat and less veggies. The other way around is best.
In countries where the pimples are not a problem, when those people move here and start drinking milk they start getting acne. When they stop drinking the milk the Acne goes away. This will happen with what ever it is that a person is doing wrong. If we all were perfect we would never have anything bad happen to us.
About the milk, if you are a milk drinker and your stomach isn't satified without it then you should drink it, but just watch the amount. I know it's not a great food though. Four times more breast cancer is found in Japanese women now that eat the western way with lots of milk and red meat. In many oriental countries red meat is only eaten a couple of days a month. The diet is more of a religous thing than here in America.
One more thing then I will tell you something that is as important as the food you eat.
Vitamin C is the one vitamin that leaves the body faster than any other vitamin. With stress, a vitamin C pill seems to help a lot when I occasionally take one, but the good effect doesn't last. Just eating good food and going to bed early is the best thing.
First, to eat fruit in it's season from a fruit stand is the best way to eat fruit. Citrus eaten this way is far better than buying orange juice from the grocery store. That stuff is sour and oranges from the large grocery stores in Arizona usually don't taste good at all. Americans will put anything on the store shelves to make a buck, but fresh tree rippened is far better. Even though Vitamin C rich foods have stopped some people's Acne it has made other people's Acne worse. It is easy in a country like this one to get too much of a good thing. If you are low in vitamin C then taking vitamin C or eating it in a fruit like grape fruit or oranges will usually make the skin a lot less oily. Califlour is one of the best sources of vitamin C, that is if you like Califlour.
Here is a very important thing to do for Acne. Probably 45% of the battle. Dicipline your sleep. Early to bed and early to rise will make a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. I know it makes you healthy.
That was probably the reason why my skin lost the oiliness while just in the military for 10 days. We were in bed at 9:00 every night and up at 5:00 every morning. We were active throughout the day and ate at regular times. The to bed at 9:00 was something new for me. That really made a difference with me. Sleep is magical, it rebuilds the immune system and everything like nothing else. Sleep and peace of mind are the best vitamins of all.Vegetables are the one food that makes my sleep good. I eat veggies everyday.
A doctor once said that 4 out of 5 of his patients wouldn't be sick if they got enough sleep. That means we wouldn't need near as many hospitals. Keep writing, Stan

Hello Stan,
Just got back from school :),
Would a multi-vitamin work too, since there are more vitamins, it would help the skin + health? Or should I take a regular B vitamin? I will try to get more sleep, I could not go go bed earlier because my teacher wanted to do a last minute essay, so I finally went to bed at 2:00 AM. I am guessing that you do not think acne products will work clearing up acne, since you have never gave me any answers for my questions. Thank you for all the information Stan!
Please and Thank You,
yeegreen1 :) -
I'm sorry Yeegreen about not answering all your questions. About the B vitamins. I used to get good results from a B complex vitamin, but it wasn't near as good as natural foods. Its just that back then I wasn't eating that good so vitamins helped some. But you are right. I don't think much about vitamins because the best vitamins are in natural food so why not just eat the food. I'm serious. You can learn about some really good food combinations by looking in cook books at the library. Multiple vitamins are a safer idea than taking one vitamin, then another. That is risky.
And no, I don't think much about the Acne cures that come with treatments or lotions. The cure has to come from the inside out not the outside in.
It is natural to look for a pill to cure you. I used to do that and believed in vitamins for a long time. Back then I was sick a lot. Now I'm almost never sick. It has been years since I was sick.
So I know I'm on the right track. I'm an expert. My health proves it.Please listen to this video from a doctor, Mark Hyman that got Acne at 36 years old and cured his own Acne. He cured it himself because dermatologists aren't in the business of curing they only want to treat. Mark had to learn things himself like I did. Please go to the URL below and listen to what he says about some of these drugs doctors will try to give you like the most expensive one, Accutane, $4,000.00. It has caused depression and liver damage. My way is a lot better and much safer. Don't take chances where your health is at risk.
Please copy and paste this URL and watch this very imformative video by Mark Hyman MD.
There are a lot of natural cures out there Yeegreen. See, a doctor can't make money by telling you to eat better and get enough sleep, but you only have one body and that is all. Take care of it.
If society says you don't have time to sleep, you have to rethink that belief and take hold of your own life. If you have Acne and even some scars at 12 yrs you need to make some changes now, because the Acne will probably progress and get much worse by the time you are 16 years old.
You will spend more time going through a regimen of skin care than making the changes I'm talking about.
I don't believe in vitamins because they just don't work as good as natural foods do.
For example, If you get an ecoli kidney infection from drinking bad water. You can have a doctor precribe an antibiotic, Cipro which will destroy all the good bacteria in your intestines with the first pill and make your tendons weak, or you can blend up (liquid dice)two raw Garlic cloves and a medium size Aloe Vera leaf in water or apple juice and drink that throughout the day (three or four glasses)and be totally cured the next day. The blending of garlic unlocks a natural antibiotic called Allison. This is the number one medicine in Europe.
The real cure comes form the inside out. Hyman and myself have discovered many of the same truths.
Work on the sleep Yeegreen, and remember, vitamins can cause insomnia or just let you sleep a little less time each night. It seems good at first, but later some people realize that they haven't been sleeping enough for years. Vitamins are a drug. Not really safe. I've known people to die of Colon cancer after taking vitamins for years. They are hard on the intestines, but young people can't feel it like older people can.
Don't take antibiotics just because doctors hand them out like candy especially as a precaution when there is no infection. Antibiotics kill the good flora (bacteria) in the intestines. This makes for very poor food absorption and allow yeast to grow in the intestines. The yeast pokes holes in the intestines making for bad food absorption. This takes a long time to heal. Fruits and vegetables give back the flora over time.
Have you ever taken antibiotics? Sometimes acne is caused it's believed by first taking antibiotics sometime before puberty. So when puberty hits the body won't be ready for it.
Here's the Acne cure in a nut shell. "Think good about yourself, get enough sleep, and eat good food." With that I have to go. Please keep writing. If I haven't answered all your questions, please let me know. I want to help. Stan
