I'm rather disappointed by the number of people here trying to push products. I've never had a cream or pill that works for more than 6 weeks. After years of antibiotics, creams (differin, tazorac, and many more), washes, spot treatments, and pills, I have finally found a method that works, and continues to work. It's so cheap that it will never gain acclaim.
It's called the oil cleansing method. I was skeptical at first too, but hear me out. Oil is not bad for your skin. It's actually a good thing; it keeps your skin soft and moist. When you use products with harsh soaps, it removes the oil and confuses the heck out of your oil glands. They realize your skin is dry, so they pump out a lot of oil. Have you ever noticed that your face gets oily very quickly the more you wash it?
Instructions:
Make the following mixture according to your skin (you might have to readjust as time goes on. My skin was not nearly as oily as I thought. The products I was using were drying my face out, which made my body produce more oil, so I used more product, so my face got drier....you get the picture. I did this for years.)The mixture:
Dry skin: 25% castor oil, 75% other oil
Normal: 50% castor oil, 50% other oil
Oily: 75% castor oil 25% other oilCastor oil (I use the store brand) can be found in the laxative aisle at your grocery store or drug store. It's a cleansing agent, and slightly drying, so you really need to add some "other oil" to it. My personal choice is Extra Virgin Olive Oil, because I have it in my cabinets anyway. Sunflower oil is a good choice too. Anything natural, really. Do NOT use baby oil or mineral oil.
So take this mixture, and rub it into your face--on top of make-up and dirt is fine. Then, take a washcloth, and dip it in HOT water (I boil water and let it cool down to a comfortable temperature), and squeeze most of it out. Don't burn yourself! Lay the washcloth on your face and let it steam the pores open. Do this once or twice more, rinsing the washcloth in between. Then wipe your face thoroughly to remove all the oil.
This method really works, and it only takes a few days to a week to start showing progress. I think it only took me 2 weeks to be completely cleared up. The reason this works is the chemistry principle of "like dissolves like". That is, the oil will dissolve the oil on your face. Then you thoroughly wash it out. It even gets out the tiny blackheads on my chin and nose. If you don't wash your face well, the oil will stay on there and clog your pores worse. I found out that I don't clean next to my ears very well because I broke out there after using this method. Now I pay careful attention to cleaning it, and there's no more pimples.
I can't promise this will work for you, and there's no money-back guarantee. But castor oil is only a few dollars, which is much less than what I've spent on most false cures. I have used this treatment periodically for a few years. I'll do it for a few weeks when my skin breaks out, or when it gets dry and flaky in the winter, then I'll go back to soap and water for a while. It has never failed to work for me.
My mom has also tried this after seeing my results. Not only has it cleared up her adult acne, but it decreased the redness on her face. In fact, the first summer I tried this, we bought almost all of the castor oil from the Walgreens near my house. I wonder what the employees thought. :D
