My son (14) had fairly severe case of blackheads just develop seemingly overnight (I know that's not true but they did seem to develop rather suddenly) every pore around his nose a blackhead of varying sizes, so I took a friend's advice and took him to a facial therapist who used steam and gloved fingers, tissue etc to squeeze them out, this took three trips and still they are not all gone, many are coming back and now he not only has pimples which he did not have before and worse, he appears to have scars? a very uneven surface of his skin and many red marks... WHat can we do? I feel very responsible, we should have left it alone, or did we do the right thing? exfoliating, strips OTC medications were not working. But now what can be done about the mess?

You need to do two different things: Blackhead prevention & Blackhead removal:

    1. Blackhead prevention

The best way for blackhead removal is preventing it from appearing. There are many ways you can do.

    * Hormones are the major cause of overproducing sebum. Stress and food play important roles in the hormone levels. So, stress release is a good way for blackhead prevention. Diet is another good way: Always avoid too much intake of fat and junk food.

    * Use a gentle skin exfoliant to remove dead cells from your skin, and keep the skin as clean as possible.

    * Do not use harsh soaps, which may irritate the skin. Use only natural cleansers instead.

    * Do a clay mask once a week for those with oily or combination skin. A good quality clay mask could help you to remove excess oil on your face, which is a cause of the blackhead.

    * Avoid oil-based cosmetics and heavy make up, which could clog your pores and cause blackheads.

    2. Blackhead removal

There are some ways for blackhead removal:

    * Use a facial steamer to steam your face for a few minutes. This helps you to open up facial pores, and expose the blackheads. Pat your face dry. Then, use a blackhead remover to remove blackheads. Place the hole of the remover over a blackhead, and gently press down. This will apply the pressure from underneath the blackhead, and pop it up. Then use an alcohol pad to clean it up to avoid infection. Avoid harsh squeezing or scraping at the blackhead. Excessive squeezing can damage the skin surround the pore and can actually increase the size of the pore, leading to more blackheads in the future.

    * You can also use a pore strip. The adhesive action of pore strips can actually rip blackheads out of your face. Since most strips are medicated, this will ensure you don’t get an infection from the rather rough extraction. Use a facial steamer to steam your face first, and pat it dry. Then, just apply the strip to the blemished area, wait the prescribed amount of time instructed by the user manual, and rip the strip off, taking the blackhead with it.

I am 41 years old and around age 22 I decided I did not want anymore black heads and squeezed them all out. Big, Big, BIG, BIG MISTAKE! My face has been in complete disaray ever since. I have had every acne treatmnet known to man in these twenty years since and all they do is strip off a layer of skin. My skin is very thin now and overly sensitive and very prone to redness. Blackheads are not bad, in fact once you pull them out you now have an exposed pore that is more susecptable to infection and acne. It also triggers your skin into making more oil as you just sucked out a great deal of it when you removed the black head. This will cause your skin to go into over drive for oil production and actually make your face worse. Leave black heads where they are, they are part of your skins natural biology. If you don't like the looks of them consider a little makeup, both men and women. Be very careful about using acne medicines as most if not all seem to remove as much or more healthy skin than they do one bacteria infected pore. This causes your skin to thin and become even more prone to acne. I clean very gently with no soap, water only, and now use a lot of vaseline on my face every night and my skin is much better - it even seems to reduce my pore sizes as my skin thinks its well oiled and actually slows down oil production. I know it locks in the moisture in my skin and moisture is always of great benefit to the body. At first your may start to break out, but it is just your skin finally pushing out all the bad stuff trapped in it - it will get better. On occasion that I do get a pimple I treat it with some benzoyl perioxide - but it only. To this day I have not been able to replace many of the blackheads I removed twenty-some years ago and have the very bad and extrememly red complexion to prove it. Keep your son's face moisturized at night and clean during the day and pray for blackheads - it will take time.

I'm happy to have tough skin, so no scars on my face because of sqeezing :).

To the point - It's obvious you've got an infection there, so using disinfector and mild soap regularly at first place is a good idea. For burning ones: apply some toothpaste (yes toothpaste) on them ant keep as much as possible - best until it dries. Rinse it off and the redness should be gone or less smaller.
Secondly, about blackheads treatment later. I prefer natural href="http://www.nosecosmetic.com/BlackHeads-on-Nose/Home-Remedies-For-Blackheads.html"> home remedies for blackheads. Yesterday I've tried applying toothpaste on blackheads, and it helped :)

Rub affected area with banana peel and salt (sounds crazy I know)
Rub blackheads with tomato or lemon juice, but be carefull, it might burn skin if used for too long.
    Use tee tree oil

And to avoid scars use href="http://www.nosecosmetic.com/BlackHeads-on-Nose/Blackheads-Extractor.html"> comedone remover next time.

And visit href="http://www.nosecosmetic.com/BlackHeads-on-Nose/Home-Remedies-For-Blackheads.html"> home remedies for blackheads - I'm too lazy to caunt all natural treatmens mentioned there :).

    Good luck.
