What do you think about treating your acne taking birth control pills? -
Well, I heard they really work, but I am a little skeptical when it comes to side effects, which don't sound too good.
Anybody tried them?

Well, I really don't know if they are good or not , but when I went to the dermatologist he gave me some medication and he told me that if it is not working I have to take birth control pills. But I never went back, because I really don't trust them for their side effects. -
I have a friend that uses birth control pills Diane-35, which it become an acne medication. Cleared her acne, but she gained a lot of weight, sort of fluffy weight.
I prefer topical medication or a light antibiotic like tetracycline, it's less dangerous for your health. -
What I am going to do if I am a guy? I can't take those freaking birth control pills. I don't want to be a guy with boobs. I have enough problems already with this acne thing. There's nothing for guys?

The pill HAS helped me some. I used to break out (still do, actually) right before my period, and I'm not talking about one or two pimples. I would get a face full of them.
I got put on the pill for other reasons, and the first one I was on didn't do much of anything for my acne. The last time I went in, I asked for one that would help with my face because I'd gotten two of the pimples that are big, red, hard, and don't go away. There were hard white nodules in the center, and they left huge pocks on my face. I'm not sure if the pill was responsible or not. I'd never gotten anything like that before.
So the doctor put me on the generic Seasonale. I only get a period 4 times a year, so there's only 4 times of break-outs versus 12, and I think they are lighter than what they used to be.
The big problems with pills are weight gain and blood clots. If you're young (under 35) and don't smoke, blood clots shouldn't be an issue. I felt that I put on a few pounds of water weight when I started on the pill, but I think I've lost it. You won't put on that much, and you can lose it.
