WATER!
I've had bad acne since i was in 7th grade.... first tried things you buy from walmart and whatnot such as clearasil or whatever that stuff is called.... didnt do the job somewhat made it worse.... probably cause i wasn't sticking to a SCHEDULE...
Then finally 2 years later, i went to a dermatologist...they tried a few different things, first it was the bar of soap thing, but not just normal soap, pharmacy prescribed it... i forgot all the other things i used but it all just seemed to not really work; if i went just a day that i forgot to wash - i was in big trouble... my main spots were between my chin and lower lip...around my upper forhead...but i never let it get out of control.
I always hated getting them because i didn't handle them the normal way i saw most people doing - which was popping them, and somehow alot of people i knew were good at that and i never even knew they even got acne... and others just demolished their face. I on the otherhand would not touch them (well...at least 80% of the time). I believe that for every pimple you pop (if you dont go crazy trying to make sure its clean after) more will come out.. Cause i could see from my moms face, that she still had acne b/c she wouldn't LEAVE THEM ALONE! But anyways i wouldn't pop mine, they would look ugly b/c they were white, but they dry out in one/two days...and its better then having to take 2 weeks getting rid of the ones you popped that take so long.. let them dry up and fall off on their own! Use you're judgment, "will this agitate my face?".
Anyways, to cut this short. Over 5 years of messing around and learning from my mistakes, here is what i learned.
1 - Simply just DONT touch your face, PERIOD! don't lean your chin or cheeks or anything on your hand when hunched over... nothing, dont touch it ESPECIALLY with your fingers... they are just packed with oils (its how they get finger prints....the oil residue that stays behind leaving the imprint) SO DONT TOUCH IT, no matter how annoying something is on your face, if you have an ich on your nose, use your WRIST or thumb nail to lightly LIGHTLY scratch it..but best to not do anything at all.
2 - DO NOT ever rub your face when washing....up to this point, i have found just simply tapping the water onto your face works...just like your trying to throw it on your face...it gets messy yeah, gets on the side of the sink...but after 2 weeks you naturally are good at keeping the water IN the sink... So just BARELY even touch your face, just toss the water up onto your face. You can touch your face barely though, IF you take the precautions in the next step.
3 - Before you wash you face, wash your hands, then realllly roughly dry them off with a towel...removes the oils... takes just 10 seconds.
4 - ONLY USE WATER! just simply toss the water up onto your face thats running out of the tap, you CAN make contact...just quickly and DONT press hard.
5 - Go over to your towel, make sure its not 2 weeks old... and DO not even move it slightly while its in contact with your face... Like what you do with a napkin when you try and soak up grease from food thats too greasy. So just simply press the towel into your skin, just tap your face with it, not so hard that it hurts your acne, just TAP. What i do is hold it on each spot im trying to dry out for 2 seconds or so...takes 12 seconds total. BUT DO NOT rub at all, do not let the towel even slightly rub, this agitates your skin and kind of 'smears' it.
6 - Your done. Just do this whenever you face doesn't feel clean, like when it just feels dirty/greasy...you know what feeling i mean. At school i would randomly do this...probably 2 times durring school... just go into the bathroom and quickly toss some water up on the face, and then dab the paper towel around it..not letting it rub at all.
7 - DO NOT USE WARM WATER, NOT EVEN LUKE WARM...if its all you got THEN its better then nothing! Cold water is always the best, even just barely cool.
8 - This is just an extra step in case your face is really greasy, its what i did when my face really just felt greasy after eating pizza or something. Do the quick hand wash/dry, then toss some water on your face, don't have to be all meticulous. Then quickly do a pat down with the towel, then just repeat.
I KNOW it sounds hard and wayyy to much time... its not... it takes me 1 minute total.. you just toss the water up on your face... no annoying face washes or anything needed... then just simply PAT dry.. absolutely no swiping friction (pat..your...face.. ) you will know if you did it right cause you face wont HURT when you do it, unless you have some big ones...but just barely dab those ones enough so their dry.
This works best if you just simply take a week of two to get your face clean, not like smoothe cleen, just not erupting with pimples you know? Water works the best. All these meds, and creams and washes i honestly believe are just un-needed, a way for people to make money. Yeah sure maybe there are some REALLY serious acne issues, thats when you use meds, but once its cleen, STOP, or slowly stop...then just use water... only using the face wash ON JUST the areas where you have pimples or soon to be pimples.
I currently have about 2 that came up on the edge of my lip..the sides. And i probably watered/dabbed it 5 times a day for 2 days and then went back to the normal schedule and it still came up but WASNT fat,,,just a little white dot even though under it was alot more..but that dries up.
Of course, if you are good enough, you can just prick it with a CLEAN little pin, just a littttle prick so some of the fluids drain out, but dont let them go anywhere else! just hold a paper towel on it for 4 min till it dries...not the whole time, just holding it on for 10 sec, then taking it off for 10 sec, put back on...you don't even have to pay attention to it..AND use a diff. piece of the paper towel each time you soak up a little of the fluid. so your not getting any of it in contact with the skin around it. then you know, do the water/tap thing. but i just say dont mess with it at all, unless YOU really have to - such as if your speaking in front of people the next morning or have something where people will really be watching you alot. I prefer doing this on like a friday so that by monday when i go back to work/school its dried, but maybe still there, but STILL not red/skabbed/or still inflated and white.
So i know this sounds hard and too much. I'll pack it all down in one quick sentence. Morning when you wake up - brush you teeth first, thennn water then dry with towel. then when at work/school/whatever, once you can tell your face is feeling slick/greecy (usually 3-4 hours after for me) just stop in the bathroom..who cares if someone sees you splashing two handfulls of water on your face/neck..it takes 10 seconds, then grab a paper towel. your done. then whenever else you get greasy face do it. thats 30 seconds total each time... make it a habit, its nothing hard... 30 seconds*4 times a day = 2 minutes total out of 1440 minutes that are in a day...thats nothing.
And most important is ALWAYS do it at night...if you only got to do it in the morning....missed a chance all day, make sure you at least do it at night.... and make sure you change you pillow cases. Dont be sleeping in your facial/body greases. Some have to change them once a week... i can go 3 weeks...i've gone neerly 1.5 months and was fine... but thats not good hah. My face has just become less greasy.
I'm 18 now and still get acne BAD if i dont simply water/towel it 2 times a day. I have some acne below my chin around my neck area finally going away cause im actually throwing water on that area now...A good sign that you dabbed your face with the towel right is your eye brows...they should not seem the way they were 2 seconds ago before you washed your face - a little greasy..
I will admit, if i get a BAD pimple, which does happen about once a month cause i do have a few lazy nights...i use this face wash i got from my dermatologist i went to 8 months ago (i stopped going, he's making money off me for simply just going to appointments... i dont need it anymore!) It's called "RE 10Wash" (sodium sulfacetamide10%). it wasn't over the counter (prescribed) but im sure its easy to get online...this bottle is lasting me forever, i just use a drop for whatever little spot it is that needs to be a little more dried out such as where you can feel a sensitive spot, where one is going to pop up soon if it gets more greasy.
Thats it...even though i typed alot, i just wanted to be through. WATER IS ALL YOU NEED. And a towel. AND NO scrubbing/rubbing of even the SMALLEST ammunt... just.. dab.. simply press the towel to your face.
Hope this helps... its my first post here.
Good luck

oh and i forgot... shaving really sucks... i hate shaving, i use an electric shaver cause normal razors are even worse...but still it sucks! It will be hard if you have alot of facial hair..i mean alot, like you could grow out a beard... i've got long sideburn hairs that go to my cheeks and around my chin alott, but i try and keep it not long..i try and only shave once every week and a half.. it releases ALOT of grease, thats when i will break out, is from shaving... i only use the electric shaver to. I know there are specific brands that are okay but there are TONS more brands that are bad somehow... i hate...shaving...but i dont have enough money for some nice brauny electric.. i have a panasonic i got for 60$....if anyone can fill me in on a good shaver that would be greatly appreciated!

hey, i guess u re right w/ the water theory.. i agree w/ u but the problem is that most who suffered acne can't stop touching their face. i tried to lessen touching my face but its hard.. but i've tried and compared to people around me, some friends of mine who have acne are worse because they disturb those breakouts and most products on the market are unhelpful in solving acne.. i'll try to apply your advice in my daily routine.

Thanks for the input :) I hope it really works out for you, it should. Yeah touching my face was always the big prob...just randomly i would lean on it...and it gets anoying to have to monitor your every move hah...but soon it just becomes a natural thing not to, just as when we were little and would pick our nose when it needed to be itched; but we learn and make it a sub-conscious habit not to - or at least in public :/

Soaking your face for about 15 seconds....a few tiems, in a bowl of ice cold water with some ice in it..really helps to btw... helps firm/tighten your face giving it a nice young complexion... as well as nourishes, and closes pours... it will not remove pimples but helps prevent them and just feels REALLY nice and refreshing.
