Hello everyone. I'm fourteen years old and I've first experienced acne 5 months ago, around August 2007. I used several products and luckily my acne was gone in a rough 2 months. But now I am left with these hideous scars at both sides of my cheeks that don't seem to go away. They've been on my face for about 3 months now.
Now I have a few questions:
1) I have been thinking of using the popular ProActiv solution. But I have heard from some reviews that some people actually broke out by using this product. Is it safe to use this product now that my acne is gone? Will ProActiv make me break out again? Does ProActiv get rid of acne scars?
2) What products do you recommend to get rid of my acne scars? Please, if you've actually tried the product, please provide the duration it was used and the results.
3) Do acne scars basically go away on their own? Or do you need some additional medication? Unfortunately I can not go get sessions with the dermatologist, since it can be very expensive.
Please help. Suffering with acne is one battle. But suffering with acne scars seems like double penalty.
If you guys need more information please don't be hesitant to ask.
And if you guys need some pictures of what my scars look like I'll post it later once I get my digital camera.
Thanks in advance.

Hi!
You are very lucky curing your acne in 2 months! Good job! I understand that it can be hard to have scars appearing on your skin but believe ¨me, it is really natural and it is a sign of a healing process goin on! Some scars take up to 2-3 years to heal, but time can be reduced depending mostly on how of the serious the scars are + environment and lifestyle you're goin through.
Now all you really need to do is : "Having patience".
Let your skin breathe- dont put makeup, it can cause your acne to breakout again ( because of blocking your pores). Eat good, drink plenty of water to rinse the digesting system, sleep well, if you dont live in a hot country go to sauna (or steamroom if available)to sweat out and open your pores to minimize the risk for breakouts. Also take a cold shower each time after being in the sauna and again drink plenty of water because you loose a lot of fluid in your body while in there.
Have to warn you for one thing though, some people can't cope with the heat because most of them are in the sauna FOR TO LONG! Dont be in the sauna for to long.
For an instance, you can go in for 6-10 minutes and then come out drink water + cold shower and rest for 10-15 ( Then repeat this 3-4 times). This definitely depends on who you are really, but thats an example.
Another advice from me is that you dont put any chemicals ( products, facewashes like pro active)on your face, thus it can make it worse by making the scars reder or even give you a new round of them little monsters, by removing to much of your natural oils of your tender skin or block your pores with moisturizers.Just let it go naturaly and use the sauna!! That reallly works, trust me on this I know ;).

Scars go away in time. Like gka87 said, have patience. You can use a bleaching cream which helps scar fade away more quickly.
About Proactiv. This stuff works for some people. It worked for me, but it's specially designed to get rid of acne. Its main ingredient is Bensoyl Peroxide. It doesn't clear up scars. So, if you don't have problems with acne anymore you don't need it. Forget about it.
Just exfoliate and use an bleaching/whitening/lightening cream.
Good luck!
